Solaia 1999 – Toscana IGT

Marchesi Antinori

  • Grape Varieties: Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc.

  • Training System: Spurred cordon.

  • Soil: Calcareous soils with a south-western exposure.

  • Altitude: 350–400 meters above sea level.

  • Vine Age: Approximately 15–25 years.

  • Harvest: Manual selection of grapes. The harvest began in late September and concluded in early October.

  • Vinification: Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about 15 days to extract color and tannins. Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques.

  • Maturation: The wine aged for approximately 12–14 months in French oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months of bottle aging before release.

  • Tasting Notes: Deep, dark, and rich, with Tuscan acidity running through it. Notes of dark plum, cassis, sweet spices, graphite, leather, cedar, and pine.

  • Alcohol Content: Approximately 13.5% ABV.

  • Serving Temperature: 16–18°C.

  • Food Pairing: Ideal with rich meat dishes, including roasts and braised meats, as well as game.
