Sassicaia 2019 – Bolgheri DOC 750ml

Tenuta San Guido

  • Grape Varieties: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc.

  • Training System: Spurred cordon.

  • Soil: Varied and complex terrain with a strong presence of limestone, marl, pebbles, and partially clayey areas.

  • Altitude: 80–400 meters above sea level, with west/southwest exposure.

  • Vine Age: Approximately 20–40 years.

  • Harvest: Manual harvesting began in the second week of September with Cabernet Franc and continued with Cabernet Sauvignon, concluding in early October in vineyards above 300 meters in altitude.

  • Vinification: Grapes were carefully selected, softly pressed, and gently destemmed to preserve berry integrity. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 26–27°C, with frequent délestage and pump-overs to enhance aromatic extraction and maintain acidity. Malolactic fermentation was completed in stainless steel by the end of November.

  • Maturation: The wine was aged in French oak barriques (40% new, 40% first passage, 20% second passage) for approximately 25 months, followed by further refinement in the bottle before release.

  • Tasting Notes: Sassicaia 2019 presents complex aromas of lively plummy fruit, baker’s chocolate, pepper spice, iron ore, caramel, and pie crust, complemented by notes of aniseed, tea leaf, menthol, and black olive. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with ripe yet present tannins and a long, elegant finish that lifts off the palate with fantastic energy throughout.

  • Alcohol Content: 14% ABV.

  • Serving Temperature: 16–18°C.

  • Food Pairing: Ideal with braised meats, osso buco, and aged hard cheeses.
