Sassicaia 2004 – Bolgheri DOC 750ml

Tenuta San Guido

  • Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
  • Training System: Spurred cordon.
  • Soil: A mix of limestone, galestro (flaky calcareous clay), and stony terrain, with some clay deposits.
  • Altitude: 80–400 meters above sea level, with west/southwest exposure.
  • Vine Age: Approximately 20–40 years.
  • Harvest: Started in early September and lasted about three weeks.
  • Vinification: Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at around 30–31°C, with about two weeks of maceration on the skins. Regular pump-overs and délestage were carried out. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel.
  • Maturation: The wine was aged for 24 months in French oak barriques (one-third new), followed by an additional six months of bottle aging before release.
  • Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red color. The nose offers rich aromas of blackberry, plum, cedar, mocha, spices, and vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied, well-structured, with impeccable balance, dryness, exceptional length, and a nutty almond-like finish.
  • Alcohol Content: Approximately 13.5% ABV.
  • Serving Temperature: 18–19°C.
  • Food Pairing: Ideal with game and red meats.
